Christmas in July

We celebrated Christmas in July with our Chop Pointers. It consisted of a lot of good food, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer relays, ice block sledding, a visit from a Christmas elf, and a Christmas wrap/rap.

One of the last activities was a gingerbread house building contest. I walked around, observing the cool creations until I reached the cabin of Manana. Their house was squat and squarish; it looked a lot like a shoebox, in fact. So when the judges came by a few moments later, they presented their masterpiece as Keziah's Shoebox in Haiti, complete with a pile of crackers to represent the ruins of St Joseph's next door. And this is how my two utterly foreign lives intersect.
