Dr. Ed had a medical team visiting from Canada this week and he asked me to help out with the clinics that they were running. On Wednesday and Thursday, we did clinic out of the school where Dr Ed normally has clinic, but today, we went to a poor neighborhood near the harbor called Lasaline. Our guide, a pastor, led us into an old, decrepit building. He explained that it used to be a prison during the rule of Doc Duvalier, one of the 20th century dictators of Haiti. How remarkable to think that today, we were healing and loving people, but 40 years ago in these same rooms, men were tortured, starved, and most likely killed.
